Ravens and Diamonds

Diamonds of dew

Scattered in the grass,

And the raven perches

King of all.

I watch him as he watches me

Both of us wary;

Should I speak?

Clamorous silence

Feeds his glamour.

His beak of steel—

His gemstone eyes—

His charcoal wings—

Untouched, nearly unseen

By raw sights.

Maybe I could fly tonight;

Perhaps it is time.

I arched my back,

Hurled a scream,

Took the leap

And beside the raven

I landed among the dew.

No words were said

We flew.
